Free choice of telecontrol protocols for S7-1200 communication processors

Nuremberg, Germany. The new firmware V3.0 for the Simatic S7-1200 communication processors (CPs) from Siemens now offers users a free choice from multiple telecontrol protocols. In addition to this, the new firmware now supports alerts by SMS or e-mail for simple notification or alarm systems. Comprehensive diagnostic functions, alert history, configuration in the TIA Portal, and webserver connectivity complete the functionalities.
The new firmware V3.0 for the Simatic S7-1200 communication processors (CPs) from Siemens extends the choice of telecontrol protocols, offering a flexible choice of connection to the control center. The new firmware supports multiple telecontrol protocols for a range of telecontrol applications within only one module. The user chooses one of the available protocols when setting up via the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal Engineering Software Step 7 V14 SP 1. In addition to TeleControl Basic, both DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-104 are available for the CP 1243-1. Sinaut ST7 as well as DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-104 are available for the CP 1243-8 IRC, which also offers a connection to an external router such as Scalance M via an RJ45 port as well as one further WAN connection for redundant paths via optional plug-in TS modules.

Comprehensive functionality and simple configuration
The new firmware also provides alerts via SMS or e-mail irrespective of the operational type of telecontrol. The CPs can therefore be installed as a simple alert and notification system without connecting them to a telecontrol control center. The CPs also have integral comprehensive diagnostic functionality and an option for saving the alert history. All information on the CPs can be retrieved via the PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controller) webserver and within the PLC program. CP functions are configured in the TIA Portal.
